Your Hosts...the Carmelite Friars
Throughout time, prayer and Carmelites have been synonymous. The Carmelite Friars have contributed greatly to the spiritual life and holiness of the Church, especially as active contemplatives.
The teaching and lives of great Carmelites such as St. Therese-the Little Flower, St.Theresa of Jesus, and more recently St. Theresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) and Bl. Titus Brandsma, have offered inspiration to those seeking to cultivate a life of prayer.
The Carmelites of the Saint Elias Province are your hosts at the National Shrine of our Lady of Mount Carmel. While our roots are in Ireland, we have, for more than 100 years, served as missionaries, chaplains, teachers, and pastors in this country.
